The Pakistan Emergency Food Security Alliance (PEFSA)
The Pakistan Emergency Food Security Alliance (PEFSA) emerged as a collaborative effort between six INGOs namely: ACF, ACTED, CARE International, IRC, Oxfam GB and Save the Children as a response to the 2010 floods.PEFSA emerged as coordinated response to the 2010 floods. Six INGOs pooled their resources and technical expertise to reach the most vulnerable populations. Since, its inception PEFSA has implemented 4 complete phases i.e. PEFSA I, II, III and IV and is currently implementing PEFSA V. This is a single donor project and to date, has responded to the floods in 2010, 2011 and 2012 in Sindh , Punjab and Khyber Pakhtun khwa. After PEFSA II, it was converted to a consortium to ensure better coordination in a formal structure.
PEFSA V is intended to be a more integrated approach between Nutrition, Food Security (FS) and WASH. In all nutrition intervention areas FS, WASH will be present as well. Furthermore there is a community mobilization sessions on health & hygiene to sensitize the global community in intervention areas.
