The Pakistan Emergency Food Security Alliance (PEFSA)
The Pakistan Emergency Food Security Alliance (PEFSA) emerged as a collaborative effort between six INGOs namely: ACF, ACTED, CARE International, IRC, Oxfam GB and Save the Children as a response to the 2010 floods.PEFSA emerged as coordinated response to the 2010 floods. Six INGOs pooled their resources and technical expertise to reach the most vulnerable populations. Since, its inception PEFSA has implemented 3 complete phases i.e. PEFSA I, II and III and is cur-rently implementing PEFSA IV. This is a single donor project and to date, has responded to the floods in 2010, 2011 and 2012 in Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.After PEFSA II, it was converted to a consortium to ensure better coordination in a formal struc-ture.
PEFSA IV is intended to be a more integrated approach between nutrition and Food Security (FS). In all FS intervention areas, Nutri-tion will be present as well. Fur-thermore there is an increased focus on resilience and disaster risk reduction which has been tied into the Cash for Work Schemes.
